Hamilton blames traffic for Q2 elimination

A downcast Lewis Hamilton lay the blame at the door of traffic in Melbourne on Saturday after being eliminated from the second phase of the qualifying session ahead of tomorrow's Australian Grand Prix; as a result, the 2008 Champion, also that season's pole and race winner at Albert Park, will start 11th for this year's race.

Having led second free practice to end Friday on top, Hamilton's weekend took a turn for the worse in the evening after performing a burnout in his Mercedes hire car in front of race fans at Lakeside Drive, only to be stopped by police before seeing his car impounded.

With deteriorating tyres and traffic, Lewis was unable to improve on his time in Q2 and exited the qualifying session early as a result. "Basically I came in early and went out early," he explained to reporters in the paddock. "I then got traffic on my lap."
