An extinction entity is a being said to be the harbinger of mass extinctions, and is the bridge by which a Death Stranding occurs. There are five known Extinction Entities, each one causing a previous mass extinction event on Earth (e.g. the extinction of the dinosaurs). Their purpose or the reason an Entity provokes Mass Extinctions is unclear, but they are a natural part of the cycle of life and death, each entity causing a Death Stranding that altered the world in a way that causes extinctions, and in the aftermath, allow new lifeforms to emerge.

The sixth and current Extinction Entity is Amelie.
