sanyiiiii #4137 "I'm going to transcribe a few questions I felt particularly intriguing for those who haven't had the chance to check out the magazine yet if that's OK with the mods. No pics, just text, as I've done in other threads to help with the multiplayer confusion.
There are plenty more questions he answers.
OXM: "Which of the characters in the game do you feel closest to?"
Mac Walters: "Garrus was always one that I felt attached to. I wrote Garrus in the first Mass Effect -- Garrus and Wrex were my mainstays in [that game]. And then I continued to write some of Garrus' mission stuff [in Mass Effect 2], not as much as his personal work, though I oversaw it as lead designer. So Garrus, I've always had an interesting attachment to, [though] it's kind of changed over the games. Wrex is just fun, and I still enjoy him.
I also have to say the Illusive Man, and it's partly [because of] working with Martin sheen, having this great voice -- but Casey also had a very strong vision for who the Illusive Man would be. I love characters that are a bit gray, that are not obviously evil or obviously good -- they're somewhere in between. So from that perspective, he's a lot of fun to write. That's one of the reasons why, when we had options [for which characters to focus on] in the books, I wanted to go back into this guy's past and explore. I find him a fascinating character and would love to do more on him -- we haven't given away all the tidbits."

OXM: "Anything you'd want to change from ME2?"
Mac Walters: "There's always something you want to change because you're always your own worst critic. But when you step back and see what people felt about the game, you think maybe you had it right. Because there's always the tendency to tweak too much, and sometimes you can go too far with it. I'd wanted to do some different stuff with explaining who the Collectors were or presenting them as a slightly different [kind of] enemy, but yeah -- there are always moments that get cut...
OXM: "Any you want to share?"
Mac Walters: "Well, I think... well, actually I won't because... well, I'll keep it generic -- there was an ME2 plot that was a kind of callback to the first ME that was going to be on the Citadel, and we cut it. But now it's made a resurrection in ME3, so I'm happy. But I can't say what it is. That's the nice thing about trilogies -- sometimes you get a second chance.""
