Contrary to some of the other posters, owning a M60 is legal under US federal law. If you are allowed to own a handgun (over 21, no felony or domestic violence convictions), you will pretty much qualify to own an automatic weapon (or suppressor, short-barreled shotgun, etc.) Ownership IS dependent on state and local laws as well. You may qualify under federal law, but if your state or hometown don't allow them, you are SOL. You do have quite a paperwork drill to go through, and the transfer requires paying a $200 tax, but it can usually be accomplished in about six months.
