"Took me freaking ages to figure out what I was doing wrong with Borderlands and I suspect a lot of people would have been doing the same thing.
The mistake I was making was checking the Enhance in-game settings, apparently it's like deviding by zero. Enhanceing nothing gives you nothing, or so I was told. I don't know if that's what the actual problem was or if it was some other bug but unchecking it got it working.
Compat 080100C5 gave me the best performance (tried them all) 16x with SS transparency gave me the best visual/performance balance. Borderlands really seems to hate supersampling, even 2x2 gave me single figure FPS.
I should say that the performance hit is still pretty heavy, but weirdly it stays around the 30-40 FPS mark regardless of whats going on, I can spin round in a firefight and it stays pretty steady, but personally anything lower than that just doesn't remove the jaggies from those super jaggy black edges. Anything higher, specifically any of the quality/SS modes just destroy framerates and doesn't seem worth it. 8Q was under 20 and any SS is single figures for me. "
