Here's what i think and heard in game from more experienced players:
Good Karma: grows inconsistently as long as you keep killing mobs, or in pvp killing the 'enemy' clans (with different alignment as posted before). Influences drop rates, other effects not sure.
Bad Karma: you get it from killing really low lvl mobs, like those the LS1 ppl kill. (not confirmed yet) and from pvp killing ppl of your own allignment. No idea about the effects to be honest.
Here's something new i heard: it might be that at higher lvls some special weapons will have specific karma requirements, so you'll only be able to use em with a certain amount of good/bad karma.
