What is a locator and where to install it ?
A locator is a way to lower the amount of data transfered via p2p.
Here is the explanation : When playing on the net with a custom skin, the other players have to download your skin to be able to see it in-game.
If you're playing on a server with 20 people, your skins will have to be send to 20 people at the same time but without using all the bandwidth of your connection (else you couldn't play at the same time)
Dealing with a quite big skin (2mB for instance), data transfer should may take a long time and the other players won't see your skin before a while.
That's where locators are useful. They re basically telling the game that your skin is available on a website and that it would be better downloading it from there rather than from your own pc.
To make a locator, you just have to create a text file which has the same name as the ressource to share and adding the '.loc' at the end.
The file only has to contain the URL pointing at the ressource and must be placed in the same folder as your ressource.
For example, to create a locator for a skin whose name is MyAwesomeSkin.zip, you must create the file MyAwesomeSkin.zip.loc which contains the url http://www.mysite.com/MyAwesomeSkin.zip.
The url must start with 'http://' and it is possible to have more subfolders in the path (like http://www.mysite.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/MyAwesomeSkin.zip for example)
Lényegében arról szól, hogy egyenként küldözgetődnek át a skinek, és ha sok játékos van, akkor sokáig tart míg mindanyian látják, mert egyszerre csak 1 időben 1 embernek küldődik át, így sorba vannak állva a skinedért. És ezek a locator fájlok arra valók, hogy ha felteszed a skinedet a netre, akkor ebbe a locatorba írd bele a skined url-jét, és tedd a locator fájlt a skinek mappájába, és nevezd skinfájlneve.zip.loc-nak, és így nem tőled fogják áttölteni a skint, hanem a megadott urlről, így sokkal gyorsabban látják majd.
