BLAST FROM THE PAST FOR MARCHIONNI
REGGIO CALABRIA – ‘It was return to the past for me – explained midfielder Marco Marchionni about playing in disqualified Corradi’s position – because that was a position that I covered many years ago. This defeat hurts because we played one of our best matches to date, we showed that we have character.’
Marco Marchionni, you played in a different position today…
‘I did well in that position because it is one that I have played in the past. The defeat was disappointing because we played one of our best matches to date. We showed our character, fighting even when it was ten against eleven. We fought for a draw until the end.’
Did you have to keep the ball on the ground more because you were lacking a tall player?
‘I think that this style worked well for our offense. I hope that the coach uses this formation, with one out-and-out striker and two supporting strikers, in the future…’
If you were asked to play the out-and-out striker position again, you wouldn’t be offended…
‘No, definitely not. As I have always said: I am at the coach’s disposal. In addition, I have already played as an out-and-out striker and therefore know that I can do it easily.’
What was missing today?
‘When you concede two goals on dead ball situations it is difficult to evaluate. We did well at the defensive level; Reggina didn’t have a lot of opportunities. Unfortunately, we repeated our same old errors.’
Apart from goals, the biggest risks you have always run have been on set pieces …
‘Exactly. We must analyze our errors and try not to make the same mistakes again. I don’t think that this is a problem with focus because we are focused. We must help each other on set pieces.’
