    Finally, it is out…

    I guess now everyone understands the amount of work that was put behind this “minor” update. As some people already realized, U4 is a major release disguised as a minor one. Some cool features:

    Link16 (the star!);
    OpenXR and AR;
    More F15 avionics;
    PBR2 and dynamic texture loading
    Protofication of acdata (this was huge, huge, huge, even though users will not notice it);
    More AI fixes and improved ATC behavior;
    Tons of new models;
    tons of bugfixes and more cpu optimizations.
    So, what now?

    As usual, after a release, we pay attention to reports to see what needs to be fixed. Very likely some stuff is broken and we intend to address them very quickly with a minor (really minor) release/hotfix. But other than that, what is the next step?

    Consolidate. Time for code cleanup, finish what was left pending for this release and pave the way for more cool stuff. And that is exactly what we are going to do now.

    4.38 (aka NT) is advancing. Codewise, it is mostly working, although it lacks proper testing and polishing which we expect to address more in this cycle. A big part of 4.38 code was ported to U4 (PBR v2 and dynamic texture loading). Unfortunately, porting NT to 4.37 is not possible without redoing the whole database, so we dropped this migration (@I-Hawk can probably tell more about this).

    The biggest problem we have regarding NT is data: the whole data has to be converted to NT format and this is a helluva work. We have people working on it, day and night. But, it will take time. Features and objectives have to be placed and campaigns have to be reworked. My understanding is that we already have one campaign working for 4.38, but @MaxWaldorf can probably tell much better about this.

    Since there is still some ground to walk until NT is finished, some of us will keep working on 4.37 in parallel, although in lower priority now. Expect a small release to fix/cleanup stuff in 4.37 and then, we reevaluate the status of 4.38 to decide if we do another “bigger minor” release or move completely to 4.38. Rest assured though: all work that will be put in 4.37 will also be in 4.38 (as is already currently happening).

    In the name of the BMS team, thank you all for your wonderful support, be it testing, playing, recording videos, doing reviews, criticizing (politely) and participating in this amazing community. This is our dream: a sim where we rule and money does not dictate what we do. And we will keep it flying as far as we can
