This patch is primarily for those who have at least 128Mb of video memory with TnL card above GeForce2 and at least 512Mb of physical memory, but you may give it a try even with lower specs.
The patch saves around 100Mb of virtual memory usage on its own using documented features of DirectX for large/huge savegames. The bigger the savegame, the more benefit you will get, so actually it saves some % of memory.
The patch also supports so-called "insane mode" - some "bad trick" with DirectX actually works for most of the systems. This "insane mode" allows to decrease amount of virtual memory usage by another 100Mb or even 200Mb if you have plenty of video memory.
