STAM: 'Want to be close to my parents'

MILANELLO - Jaap Stam has explained the reasons for returning to Holland in June when he joins Ajax: 'It’s been written that would return to Holland in January. I asked the club about this possibility but my original request was always to go at the end of the season and I want to finish this campaign by giving my contribution to the team. There are a few months to go yet and I’m eager to help my colleagues to win.' He added: 'I do feel homesick. My family also misses Holland and I want to be closer to my parents now they are growing frail. I am happy that the club has given me this opportunity, as they said I could’ve stayed for another year, but my choice to go was purely down to my family situation.'
