Most vettem észre a válaszod. Nos, nincs igazad. Nem is tudom, honnan szeded ezeket...
Az 1024 nem is osztható 10-zel! De még a 8-cal oszthatóság sem számít itt. Ez egy bináris szám 10-es számrendszer-beli megfelelője, nevezetesen a 10000000000b-nek (hexa 0x400-nak). (A bináris számok ugyebár úgy jönnek ide, hogy azokon alapul számtech, mert a bitek ilyen számokat jelentenek...)
Az alább írt új szabályozás a bájtokra is vonatkozik ám! Nem csak a bitekre.
Ime egy válasz, amit egy internetes cég küldött nekem a tárgyban:

In December 1998, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)
approved a new IEC International Standard. That standard defined megabyte,
gigabit etc as multiples of 1000 (not 1024).
You say that "Hard Disk Drive manufacturers a few years back started to
(totally incorrectly) use "M" as a multiplier of 1000000". I don't think
it's "totally incorrect", just adapting to the new standard.
As a side note, the standard defines kibibit, mebibyte, gibibyte (etc) as
the "binary" (multiples of 1024) terms, but that doesn't seem to have been
adapted by very many...
