Our bot policy is very simple. We do not allow bots to play on the Lineage II servers. Since Lineage II was launched we have closed every bot account that we have tested. This usually equals about 1000 accounts a week. Since late 2005 we have closed about 400K accounts just for botting.
Your friend was not caught because of mass petitions. Your friend was caught because he just happened to be botting where they GM was searching for bots.
It has never been ok to bot in Lineage II. The only reason people thought it was ok, was because they thought they would not get caught. This is why the GMs started announcing names and making a big show out of banning bots. We want people to see the work we are doing instead of doing it in secret as before. So, now that some people might are scared to bot, the real work can be done in regards removing bots.
Private servers can stop bots because they can make minor changes to their code to break the bots. Because those particular private servers are so insignificant to the bot makers, the bot makers do not update their bots to work on some single, stupid, minor server. The second a minor change is made like that on the live servers the bots are updated in hours.
We have been fighting bots for years, but we did not want to make a spectacle of it. Now we will make a spectacle of it. It is way past the time to fight fire with fire but it is here now.
I do not care if the person(s) we find using a bot is in a big clan or a small one. I don't care if they are a farmer or a normal player. I don't care if they used to be legit and only started botting to 'keep up.' If they are breaking the rules, they will be removed from Lineage II and they are free to go cheat in some other game. I suggest that if you have other friends that use bots that they stop now. If they don't, I will catch them and laugh out loud (lol) as their toon fades to black for the last time.
