6 months ago I bought myself an HK 243 S SAR for rouhly 1500.- USD. The HK G36 has always been a part of my wet gun dreams and I always wanted one like these.
When I got the gun I wanted to test this bad boy to its limits. So I took the HK several times to a combat cellar where I do my regular training. I came up with the following pross and cons:
Pros:
- Weight. Compared to other full sized assault rifles (FN SCAR, SIG 550, AK) the G36 is not that heavy.
- Handling. I took it out of the box, inserted a 30rd mag and was all set to go. Loading the gun was simple, mag exchange and such went all well. The pistol grip of the gun is ok. Hand guard is ok. No cheap parts on this gun except the hand guard.
- Recoil. almost non existent.
- Top Rail. The HK comes with a top picatinny rail to attach extra optics. Awesome.
Cons:
- Bolt catcher. Little button at the trigger guard. Pretty useless.
- Iron sights. Too small if used in cqb.
- Heats up. When I ran 4 mags through the gun it heated up so badly that I had to let it cool down. No chances of holding it anymore. Neither at the handguard nor at the lower receiver.
Overall I must say it's an easy to use rifle, is accurate on the distances I shot with and I got a good feeling whenever I have to use it in training. The big let down is that it heats up very easily. None of my other guns heat up that quick...
