Hello, Those that know me ,Know that I been teaching Photography for a long time and a long time student of the history of Photography. Something very amazing happened today that I wanted to share with you all. Teaching accounts for about 80% of what I do nowdays because I find it the most rewarding thing I can do, I have dropped clients that I've been working for close to 20 years to do more teaching. Currently only 30% come from the stock world, Most come from fine art sites and referrals for people still coming over from film. [yes it's true] here's the story. A few weeks ago my wife is walking the dog in a near by park, She meets an older woman walking her dog and taking pictures, They talk and the woman is interested in taking a few classes. Well I squeeze her in. She is 85, from Israel, We talk for 3 hours just so I can determine what she wants or needs to learn. I of course start with the basics like DOF and composition. She gets extremely confused and I fear will never , ever understand this. Shes frustrated, Im frustrated. the next week she comes back and shows me the work she has been doing for years. MY GOD!! HOLY CRAP, Tears started rolling down my face. She was without a doubt the best photographer I've seen in 20 years in the True sense of the word "Photographer" She had books printed up of her work in central Park NY and europe of Old people kissing on a park bench, Blurry feet of lovers dancing in the street, old leaves in a rain puddle reflecting the city buildings, Raindrops on a handrail. So far beyond what 99% of us see that it killed me. She uses a old nikon Film P&S on total Program Mode. Her Images made me cry with the sheer power of the story she was telling. She cannot send an e-mail, never heard of photoshop and cannot learn it. Has her images processed by a drug store. I told her, there was NOTHING I could teach her. She was so far beyond me and anyone I have seen in 20/30 years. would her images be accepted as stock? NO, THANK GOD!!!!!! Hope you all get what Im saying here. She has a gift that transends all technology. Im honored to know her. her vision, Style and commitment to seeing what all of us just walk past everyday without noticing .Needless to say it was a great reaffirming experience for me. Hopefully for a few of you. She defines "Photographer".

    Best, Laurin"
