Thrustmaster's Firestorm gamepad is a pleasure to behold. With 13 programmable buttons and both analogue & digital modes, this gaming device is a little gem. The Firestorm is very easy to install, boasting USB interface, the simple plug & play formula works a treat, within minutes of opening the box you can be experiencing enhanced gameplay, whether it be sports games, shoot-em ups or driving sims. This gamepad is hugely capable.
The Firestorm features 13 programmable buttons, 8 way D-pad and 2 analogue controllers (just like what you see on Playstation pads) The analogue controllers are particularly useful, especially in football games when the bog standard D-pad becomes inferior. It is worth mentioning though that Firestorm's D-pad is one of the best I've used, especially for driving games, coping with TOCA 2 admirably. The 4 action buttons on the front of the pad are well positioned, these are complimented with 4 shoulder buttons and 2 buttons underneath, again these are well situated although people with small hands may find the ergonomics cumbersome. The force feedback effect is bearable, personally I prefer this left to joysticks and wheels, surprisingly batteries are not needed and you can turn it off when necessary.
A black and silver theme dominates the gamepads design. The metal surround for the main buttons, D-pad and analogue controllers looks particularly attractive. The pad is well weighted and although it is not as comfortable as a Nintendo 64 controller, it does fit well in your hands and as I've mentioned, all the controls are easy to locate in the spur of the moment. Finished in a rubber-texture effect, this baby isn't going to slip from your grasp during a sweaty shoot-em up battle.
There are no free games included with the package, but a three year warranty should suffice and the price is no cause for concern. Simple to install, easy to configure, looks the business and feels great, for both beginners and gaming experts, the Firestorm is an excellent all rounder, its not perfect but then again what is, terrific!
