Whilst damage to towns and especially the ports of southern England had been extensive right from Hampshire to Kent, the loss of the large part of three armies in Britain let alone the quantities of war materiel they had been forced to abandon after the Battle of Reigate impacted heavily on Germany. It is believed that Hitler’s plans for conquering Yugoslavia and Greece were delayed by perhaps four months and the invasion of the USSR would not occur until May 1942. German naval losses as a result of the invasion were never replaced.'
