STUDY OPTIONS IN ENGLISH
In all likelihood, for the next application period, the University of Helsinki is going to introduce a student selection system that does not offer admissions in English for undergraduate applicants: the entrance examinations for undergraduate applicants are in Finnish and Swedish only. The situation will remain open until the early autumn 2007: you are advised to keep yourself up-to-date by visiting the Web pages of the University of Helsinki and its Faculties.
At present, the University of Helsinki offers the following graduate programmes and other study options in English.
INTERNATIONAL MASTER´S PROGRAMMES

FACULTY OF ARTS
The Master’s Degree in English Philology and some other Master´s Degrees can be completed in English at the graduate level through special arrangements. If the applicant has a Bachelor´s degree or equivalent in the major he/she is applying for, the Student Selections Board of the Faculty may grant direct admission to the applicant. To qualify for direct admission, the applicant must have a high standard Bachelor´s degree that is comparable in its contents with a Bachelor´s degree offered by the Faculty of Arts. For more information, see http://www.helsinki.fi/hum/english/.
In addition to the English philology programme, also other philological language studies (French, German, Italian and Spanish) in the Faculty of Arts form a unique group of majors that has certain special requirements: e.g. a proficiency in the target language.
FACULTY OF LAW
The International Master of Laws (LL.M.) Diploma Programme is a one-year further education programme fully in English. The prerequisite for applying is a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree or equivalent. For more information, see http://www.helsinki.fi/oik/tdk/english/.
FACULTY OF MEDICINE
The two international programmes in health care are fully in English: DQI® (Diploma in Health Care Quality Improvement and Leadership Development) and MQI® (Master in Health Care Quality Improvement and Leadership Development. The DQI and MQI diploma programmes are further education programmes in English, they do not lead to a Finnish degree. These programmes are liable to charges.
FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES
All graduate programmes in the Faculty of Social Sciences are fully in English. For more information, see http://www.valt.helsinki.fi/faculty/.
FACULTY OF THEOLOGY
The Master of Theology Degree (120 credits) is available in English. An applicant who has completed a Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree may be accepted to the Faculty of Theology without an entrance examination. The Admissions Board of the Faculty will assess the quality and scope of the applicant's previous degree. For more information, see http://www.helsinki.fi/teol/english/index.htm.
OTHER FACULTIES
Excluding the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine (regular degree programmes), the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, all other Faculties offer study options in English for graduate applicants. The situation varies greatly from one faculty to another, admission often depending on the available resources and supervision.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
On language requirements, please see the regulations below. More detailed and language-specific information is available at http://www.helsinki.fi/admissions/language_skills.htm.
Only if you have graduated from a high school or (upper/senior) secondary school with an education that has been fully completed in English in Great Britain, Ireland, United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand, you do not need to prove your English language skills by a language test. Also, if you have a university degree from one of the countries mentioned above, you do not need to indicate your proficiency with a language test. Polytechnic or university education completed in English in any other country does not give sufficient proof of an applicant's English language skills.
Furthermore, if you have completed FULLY in English a lower academic degree (i.e. Bachelor´s Degree) or a higher one (i.e. Master´s Degree) in the above-mentioned countries, in the Nordic Countries or in one of the EU/EEA Countries, you do not have to take an English language test. Also applicants with an IB (International Baccalaureate) or EB (European Baccalaureate) are exempted from the language requirement, if they have the language in question on their graduation certificate as ´mother tongue´.
Otherwise, your English language skills must be proved by:
* TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - http://www.ets.org
* CAE (Cambridge Advanced Examination) or CPE (Cambridge Proficiency Examination) - http://www.cambridgeesol.org
* IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - http://www.ielts.org
The organisations below also offer a Finnish and/or Swedish language test
* The test offered by the University of Helsinki Language Centre´s Language Services - http://www.helsinki.fi/kksc/language.services/english/index.html)
* The test for the National Certificate of Language Proficiency (http://www.oph.fi/english)
* TISUS (Test in Swedish for Universities) - http://www.nordiska.uu.se/tisus
Please note that the University of Helsinki does not accept any other English (or Finnish or Swedish) language tests than those listed above.
The test score must come directly from the organisation arranging the test. Score slips or their copies provided by applicants are not accepted. Neither are test scores sent by fax or as attachments to an e-mail message acceptable.
It is important to note that philological language studies (French, German, Italian and Spanish) in the Faculty of Arts require a proficiency in the target language.
Please note that the Faculty may, if it so wishes, request a proof of English proficiency from any applicant.

FEES
At present the University of Helsinki does not charge international students any tuition fees. The exceptions to this rule are the further study programmes mentioned above (LL.M., DQI and MQI).
All undergraduate and graduate students are required to pay the annual Student Union membership fee (69 euros in 2006-2007). The membership fee includes a health care contribution that entitles the students to inexpensive health care. In addition, student meals, inexpensive travel options, and some other discounts are available to students upon presentation of the Student Union membership card.
Even with the inexpensive meals and health care, the cost of living may be as high as 600 euros per month. The cost of study materials varies from one field of study to another. In most cases the use of libraries is free of charge. However, some books included in course requirements have to be bought.
Please note that the University of Helsinki offers no scholarships or grants for new incoming students. Neither has the University any means of arranging jobs for students.

Gondolom angolul beszél mindenki a suliban, vmit tudsz a helyi nyelvbõl.?
