NVIDIA is ready to counter the Triple Play
With the release of the G80, NVIDIA will also release a new engine dubbed Quantum physics engine. Quantum Effects Technology is similar (at least in spirit) to NVIDIA's PureVideo Technology -- a dedicated layer on the GPU for physics calculations. A few documents alluding to this new engine appeared on public FTP mirrors late last week.
Quantum utilizes some of the shaders from NVIDIA's G80 processor specifically for physics calculations. Physics calculations on GPUs are nothing new; ATI totes similar technology for its Stream Computing initiative and for the Triple Play physics.
NVIDIA and Havok partnered up this year claiming that SLI systems would get massive performance gains by utilizing additional GeForce GPUs as physics processors. Quantum may be the fruits of that partnership, though NVIDIA documentation clearly states that Quantum will work just fine without SLI.
NVIDIA's documentation claims Quantum will specifically compete with AGEIA's PhysX, yet does not mention who is providing the middleware. Given that there are only two acts in town right now, it would be safe to say Havok has a hand in the Quantum engine.

NV G80 specs leaked
The most important aspect of the leaked documentation are the specs revealed:
- Unified Shader Architecture;
- Support FP16 HDR+MSAA;
- Support GDDR4 memories;
- Close to 700M transistors (G71 - 278M / G70 - 302M);
- New AA mode: VCAA;
- Core clock scalable up to 1.5GHz;
- Shader performance: 2x Pixel/12x Vertex over G71;
- 8 TCPs & 128 stream processors;
- Much more efficient than traditional architecture;
- 384-bit memory interface (256-bit+128-bit);
- 768MB memory size (512MB+256M😎
The unified shader architecture suggests, what the experts have been saying for a while now, that the cards will be support DX10.
According to the same, leaked, information the G80 will surface in November in two varieties, the GeForce 8800 GTX and GeForce 8800 GT priced at a mere USD 649 and USD 449-499 respectively. The GTX model (higher-end) will feature a 384-bit memory interface, a hybrid water and air cooler and 7 TCPs while the GT will have a 320-bit memory interface, a standard air cooler, and 6 TCPs.
No one has actually explained what TCP actually stands for although Techreport has uncovered an nVidia patent which refers to thread control processors. According to the same patent these TCPs will be used to set the function of the unified shader processors.

WE WILL see the G80 this year. At least it looks like we will.
We expected the chip a little bit earlier but we learned that Nvidia fiddled about with some plans. We also learned that G80 is likely to sample in November time and there is a big chance that you should be able to buy one sometime during that month.
We also learned that most specifications such as a 1500MHz clock are far from true and I have to remind you that we are talking about a 90 nanometre chip only, so don’t expect miracles from the clock speeds. It won't be more than 700MHz and we strongly believe it will end up even lower than that.
R600, the next generation ATI is already pushed for January/February time, or to be on the safe side we can simply say Q1 2007.

* The G80 is expected to be released anywhere from October to November of 2006, although, as of August 2006, with no official word from nVidia, a 2006 launch seems unlikely.
* It will be the first Direct3D 10 and Shader Model 4.0 card to be released.
* The G80 will be a 32 pipeline card with 32 pixel shaders, 16 vertex shaders, and 16 geometry shaders per core. The vertex shader pool and geometry shader pool may be unified.
* There will be 2 cards released at launch, the flagship 8800GTX and the slightly slower 8800GT. The 8800GTX will have 512 MB of ram while the 8800GT will have from 256 MB-512 MB of RAM and will also have slower core and memory clock speeds, and possibly fewer pipelines, than the 8800GTX.
* The launch price of the 8800GTX will be $499-599 while the 8800GT will initially cost $299-399. <1>1>
* Following the introduction of the flagship 8800 range, NVidia will introduce cheaper, slower versions of the card with one or more of the following reductions in capability: (a) reduced core clock speed; (b) reduced memory clock speed; © reduced memory bus width; (d) reduced pipeline count; (e) reduced chip count (if the 8800 is, in fact, a dual chip part); and / or (f) reduced complement of memory. If previous the NVidia naming convention is followed, mid-range products will be identified by model number 8600, and low-end parts will be named 8300.
* The G80 will not have unified shaders, but will still be DirectX10 compliant.
* The memory interface is said to be Samsung's new GDDR4 specification.
* The series is also rumored to have fast memory and core clocks, but will still be built on 90nm technology to avoid unnecessary risks.
* Anandtech reports that the next generation of GPUs will range in power consumption from 130W to 300W. This increase in power consumption will make for higher-wattage Power Supply Units (in the 800 to 1100 Watt range) and/or the addition of internal, secondary PSUs solely for powering the GPUs. <2>2>
* The G80 should also feature UDI connections with full HDMI support.

Sajnos az eredeti forrásokat mind törölték, csak ennyi maradt, de ez meg szerintem kamu ...
The G80 includes a Unified Shader Architecture, FP16 support, 700 million transistors and a new AA mode. It will run up to 1.5GHz, have the weird 384 bit memory interface we told you about, and sport an oddball 768MB of DDR4 at very high speeds.
There are two launch SKUs, an 8800GTX with the full memory interface and water cooling, and an 8800GT that has a 320 but memory interface. The GTX will retail for $649 and the GT in the high $400s. This looks like a really cool card, nice catch guys.
Next PC upgrade: 2022
First is timing. At Computex, and as we reported earlier, Nvidia had silicon up and running. If all went well, that would mean silicon up in early June, 10-12 weeks for production chips and another month for boards, the September/October launch dates floating seemed likely.
We hear there was another spin in August, not huge, but a spin anyway, and first Silicon is due back any day now. If all goes well, that means another 3-4 months before boards are done, and you are looking at late November. NV has a reviewers/tech day tentatively set for early November, so think in the month for parts.

most megnézik a vistán is hehe

mikorra várható a megjelenés?
