As the European release of City of Heroes approaches, we want to put the server and network hardware through its paces to ensure that the launch goes as smoothly as possible. To check our load balancing and other clever technical stuff, we need as many testers as possible - which is where you come in.
As a special 'thank you' to all our existing testers, we are giving you all the opportunity to invite a friend to the last stage of the City of Heroes European Beta Test. Below you will find a new serial code for the European Beta Test of City of Heroes, which you can give to a friend to invite them into the beta. Just forward this mail to a friend you think would be interested in trying out City of Heroes - full instructions for registering and downloading the client are included.
Your 'Invite a Friend' serial code is:

In order to enter Paragon City and start bringing criminals to justice, you need to perform the following steps:
1. Sign into your PlayNC Master Account at http://www.plaync.com
2. Using the 'Add Game' link, use your Beta serial code to create a European Beta game account.
3. Register on the City of Heroes European Message Boards at https://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com
4. Download the European Beta Updater from https://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/
5. Uncompress the Updater.
6. & 7. Run the Updater to install and download the City of Heroes European Beta client.
8. Create a shortcut to start the game in future.
These steps are explained in detail below:
1. Go to the PlayNC website and sign-in to your PlayNC Master Account:

If you choose ‘No’, you can choose a different account name and password for the Beta – we recommend you do this for additional security.
3. Before you can download the updater and install the game, you must register on the City of Heroes European Message Boards. Go to the boards at: https://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/
Click on the ‘New User’ link in the top right. On the next screen, enter your Beta account name and password (selected at Step 3, above). On the following screen, choose your Board Display Name (the name that other board readers will see), your password (we recommend that you make this different to your game password for security) and your email address. Click on ‘Submit’ to register your message board account.
4. You can now download the European Beta Updater from:
https://uk.boards.cityofheroes.com/coh_updater.zip
If you are not logged into the boards, a pop-up window will prompt you for your City of Heroes European Message Boards login name and password. Remember that your login will be the same as your European Beta account name (chosen at Step 2, above) and your password will be the one you selected for the message board (Step 3, above).
We recommend you download the file to your Windows desktop.
5. Once the coh_updater.zip file has downloaded, you need to uncompress the file.
If you have WinZip, WinRAR or some other compression program installed, you can use those as usual. If you have Windows XP, you can uncompress the file by right-clicking on it and selecting ‘Extract All…’ and following the prompts, which will result in the uncompressed file being placed in a folder on your desktop called coh_updater.
6. IMPORTANT: If you have a previous version of City of Heroes installed, you must install the City of Heroes European Beta client to a different folder than your existing install. For instructions, see below. If you do not have a previous version of City of Heroes installed, go to Step 7, below.
To install the City of Heroes European Beta client to a different folder than your existing City of Heroes installation, double-click on the CohUpdater.EU.exe file to start the updater. When the dialogue box opens to tell you that City of Heroes will be installed to C:\Program Files\City of Heroes, click ‘No’ and choose a different folder from your existing installation. For example, if your existing version of City of Heroes is installed to C:\Program Files\City of Heroes, we would recommend creating a new folder in C:\Program Files called Europe, and installing the game there (which would install the game to C:\Program Files\Europe\City of Heroes, as the updater always creates a City of Heroes folder in the chosen location).
