Gathering of Developers releases new information on its upcoming Duke Nukem hunting game from 3D Realms and Action Forms.

Gathering of Developers has released new information about its upcoming hunting game, Duke Nukem: Endangered Species. The game is being developed by Texas-based 3D Realms, the creator of the Duke Nukem action games, and Ukrainian studio Action Forms Ltd., which developed the Carnivores hunting game series. In the game, players assume the role of the famous action game hero Duke Nukem, whose voice and personality remain unchanged since his previous games. In Endangered Species, Nukem must hunt down a variety of dangerous animals that are running wild and attacking without provocation. Each mission in the game features new animals, including alligators, sharks, gorillas, lions, and polar bears. In addition, the game features more challenging creatures such as bigfoot, werewolves, and a tyrannosaurus rex. The animals in the game will use sight, sound, and smell to avoid the hunter.
Duke Nukem has more than 10 weapons at his disposal, including hunting rifles, shotguns, crossbows, sniper rifles, machine guns, and pistols. In addition, the game will also feature many weapons from the original Duke Nukem 3D, like the shrink ray, freeze ray, and rocket-propelled grenades. Along with the arsenal of weapons, players have access to several kinds of equipment such as camouflage, scent makers, weapon-sound suppressors, and animal calls. Nukem's sunglasses feature GPS information, animal targeting information, thermal and night vision, and display that presents an analysis of the surrounding terrain.

Duke Nukem: Endangered Species is scheduled for release in the second half of 2001.
