    When does SpaceX plan on reusing the second stage? What are the plans with that in general?

    SpaceX does not currently plan to reuse the second stage on the Falcon family, although they still plan to for BFR. The main issue is that the payload penalty is much higher (every kilogram of recovery equipment on the second stage is a kilogram out of payload), and that the second stage needs to come back from orbit rather than a suborbital path. Furthermore, the Merlin 1D-Vac engine can't be used to propulsively land due to its weak vacuum bell, so it would need SuperDracos or another form of propulsion - yet more of a payload penalty.
