Újabb hírmorzsák láttak napvilágot a "The other project"-ről:

That's another major project going on right now - the graphics engine is being rewritten to used Deferred shading. The goals is to have simpler and more flexible graphics pipeline so that we wouldn't have to rely on dirty tricks, just faking light and shadow as we are doing now. This rewrite has been in the works for about a year already, too - and again, we still have a way to go.

If/when we get the new renderer in place, normal maps will be very easy to plug in technically. Our engine can do normal maps for years (our OceanDive which is using the effect a lot was released in 2005), but the family of bumpy effects was never introduced to driving games, because these games do not have lighting model implemented in a way that would work as nicely as in OceanDive or our Hunting Unlimited games.

The way that map data are stored now for ETS2 has been changed to allow for far higher precision. With the older games, the farther the camera was from the center of the map (coordinates[0,0]), the worse were the Z-fighting artifacts - the nasty display errors when sometimes lines on roads, or shadows, or lights flicker and cut through underlying surfaces. These things should no longer happen, no matter how big the world is - so we have far more freedom building the maps now, and moders who often extend our map way beyond original area shouldn't be troubled with it either.
