Gerard Houllier has urged French stars Samir Nasri, Karim Benzema and Hatem Ben Arfa to snub the lure of the Premier League for the time being.

Marseille playmaker Nasri, 20, has been attracting attention from Europe's heavyweight teams for the last couple of years, while Lyon duo Benzema, 20, and Ben Arfa, who turns 21 on Friday, have shot to prominence this season.

All three are now regulars in Les Bleus' squad and it appears to be only a matter of time before they leave France's top flight.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is a known admirer of Benzema and Ben Arfa, while the likes of Real Madrid have been linked with a move for Nasri.

But Houllier, the former Liverpool and Lyon boss who is now France's national technical director, believes the trio's needs would best be served if they stayed in their own country.

"For those three players, it would be an error to leave for abroad now," said the one-time France coach.

"Nasri, Ben Arfa and Benzema are being selected in the best French teams. They are therefore in the best conditions to develop their game, progress and make that step up.

"They must stay and get more confidence into their game, assert their qualities and achieve things."

He added in L'Equipe: "And leaving Ligue 1 shouldn't just be a question of money. You must be professional in your approach to leaving.

"Going abroad must be motivated by the desire to assert your potential, your play."

All three players should feature at Euro 2008 this summer.

    Hajrá Lyon!
