Jose Mourinho turned down an offer to coach Lyon after leaving Chelsea, according to club official Bernard Lacombe.

Lacombe is special advisor to club president Jean-Michel Aulas and claimed his boss approached Mourinho after he quit the West London club - which was after Alain Perrin started coaching Les Gones.

"I know that the president approached [Mourinho]," said Lacombe.

"But the talks didn't go very far. Mourinho was in need of some rest."

Mourinho has been out of work since leaving Stamford Bridge in October and is tipped to take the reigns at either Barcelona, Real Madrid or Milan in the summer.

    Hajrá Lyon!
