A folyadéklégzést eredetileg elsősorban tüdőbetegek számára fejlesztették ki. A nagyobb sűrűsége miatt, jóval nagyobb parciális oxigénnyomás érhető el vele, mintha gázkeveréket használnának, megkönnyítve ezeknek az embereknek a belégzést. Aztán gondolom a katonaság is rácsapott.
És ami érdekes, hogy az Abyss-ben tényleg PFC-be (oxigenált perfluorokarbon) rakták a patkányt, aki tényleg lélegzett.
"Previously we had been shown scenes of a pet rat breathing while immersed in the special oxygenated perflouorocarbon (PFC) liquid. The rat scene was real and the rat unharmed. Indeed, the breathing liquid was actually under development at the time. The Navy may now be using a secret version of the equipment, but according to submersible designer Graham Hawkes, a liquid breathing system for deep diving was never commercialized. Even though the diving equipment was speculative, much to their credit, the Abyss makers hired knowledgeable consultants to get their portrayal of the technology right."
