The new Xbox is being built as TV-optimized Windows Gaming PC, combining console style ease with full PC flexibility.
* Out of the box it will feel like a traditional Xbox console experience, but you will be able to "exit into full windows to run ANY PC store, launcher, or app you want.
* It will support the entire existing xbox console library. All will run natively on the launcher.
*You will be able to install and run almost any game that runs on Windows PC (access to STEAM, EPIC, BATTLE NET etc).
* NO MULTIPLAYER PAYWALL (like PC gaming).
*Developers will get improved economics. Microsoft's PC storefront reportedly will stay at 12% revenue share (vs the typical 30%) for games built for the Xbox/PC ecosystem.
*Despite this open PC style model, the new hardware is being positioned as a PREMIUM EXPERIENCE. Likely more expensive than previous console prices. But still cheaper than a full PC.
* Lot of unanswered questions and risks. Will the console experience remain the same. Will people accept the higher price. Will major AAA developers accept this change.
*The current Xbox handheld, Xbox Ally X is being used as a public beta preview.
*Target release date is 2027.
