If you want to use it with the radar:
Master arm on
Turn on hmcs
Go to dogfight override mode and select 9X
(make sure FCR is soi, but it should always be at this point...)
Press and hold TMS-up until FCR ACM BORE ellipse is displayed on hmcs
Ellipse over bandit and lock
9X has a tone
uncage 9X, diamond still stays put on target with good tone

or if you want to use it without radar:
Master arm on
Turn on hmcs
Go to dogfight/msl override or AA master mode and select 9X
Uncage 9X (diamond goes wild from HMCS aiming cross at this point)
Press and hold cursor enable switch (diamond return to aiming cross)
Diamond over bandit, diamond stays put on bandit with good tone
