some of you guys seriously waste way too much time yacking it up here about absolutely nothing. go out and do something better with your time! as your senior (for most of you, i'm 22), i can tell you that chatting online is the most useless thing (more useless than playing WE, since there's usually less satisfaction). there's not going to be any new info here and if there is, it will be posted in the official news section! go play real soccer, meet new people, learn a new language (Japanese maybe, so you don't have to wait for an english patch), volunteer, etc etc. At the very least, if you wanna write and yack about WE and footie, do it in an organized way for writing practice. it might help you land a job later (seriously, the hobbies you have when you're 10-20 really affect your professional skils later on). just rotting away here is the arguably one of the most meaningless things in life.
But anyway, who am I to say that? Here's a translation of the scans posted a few days ago:
ONLINE
- Ability to play 2 vs 2 online. (2 people per PS2 can play online)
- When ball goes across the touch line (goalkick, throw-in), you will have a chance to send an instant message to your opponent (online)
- The host for an online game will change at half-time. Since the host has no lag, this is done to be fair to both players. So, you can either host 1st half or 2nd half.
- play with your ML team online. cannot participate in special tourneys with that team tho, so i guess only friendlies? fair enough.
GAMEPLAY
- the biggest change: the player you control has become "baka" (idiotic), which means that he will do less and less by himself and that you will have to make a lot more movements for him. for example, when clearing crosses and jumping for headers, you HAVE to place him and make him jump at the right time. you cant just mash the square button. so, less auto, more manual. you will also have to control him to go after passes, cleared balls, etc. should give you more control over your players (meaning a steeper learning curve), but after you master it it should make playing against the 6 star AI even easier. however, player vs player should be even more exciting. "complete control," the producer of the series mentioned. he also said that this will give the gave a lot more excitement, especially when you get crosses coming into the box. i guess defending might become an art.
- more shots which go over the bar ("because in real life a lot of shots go over the bar")
- you don't need to press R2 in order to do a side-step (how you will do it now is not written)
- AI is improved. not next-gen, but pretty close.
- if you press R2 when you kick, the player will ALWAYS kick with the inside of the foot. (better accuracy, less power?) the power meter will be to judge the length of the shot. maybe this is a new kind of loop shot. much more control
- new "middle shooter" special ability. normally, if you shoot a ball which is not moving or coming at you (after clearances, etc) you kick the ball 4-5 as more powerfully. but this "middle shootah" is gonna have the ability to shoot it 8-9 times more powerfully. of course, with proper guarding by the defence this increase in power can be checked.
- players w/ "striker" special ability will be able to put more outside spin on the ball, "thus making it easier to go into the goal"
- all asian teams in (north korea, bahrai, hong kong, etc... iraq too? TAJIKISTAN too??? GO TAJIKISTAN!! (i was born in dushanbe)
- no mention of being able to play w/ other asian teams, altho the producer mentions that "the player will have to go through the first qualifying stage, the second stage, participate in the bullshit tourneys like Kirin Cup, and get to the world cup." this makes me think that its ONLY for Japan, since it will include a complete 2-year schedule including Kirin Cup and other shits.
- no mention of additional leagues, club teams
- make the aerial game more realistic is one of the big issues of WE9
GRAPHICS
- many more motion captured animations of players colliding.
- addition of a new nakamura free-kick style (WTF!! this is in addition to the one already made for him a couple of years ago. who really gives a shit, konami!!)
anyway, so there you have it. that's all the important info from the article. honestly, the article from this mag is aimed at a really young audience (10-15?), so the producer didnt go into any really technical stuff (aside from the "complete control" thing). just reapeating the same bullshit over and over. the overall feeling is that not much has been changed. the gameplay has been tweaked and refined. oh, and there was absolutely no mention of anything new for the ML other than playing w/ your team online. this is not a surprise, since konami's strategy from here on w/ WE will be to have everyone play online rather than ML (more moolah).
