    TIME FOR FAIRYTALES IS OVER

    Sandra talks about her new album

    In the 80ties she was Germanies princess of pop. Hit by hit, millions of sold records. Then all got calm about Sandra. She went to Ibiza in 1988 with her husband, musician and producer Michael Cretu - and returned to the music business after a big break as she gave birth to her twins. After finishing work on her new album she will take part on 17th of June in the 80ties Festival in the Westfalen Hall Dortmund/Germany. Frank Fligge talked to her and she allowed him unusual deep looks behind the private curtain.

    Q = Question
    A = Answer of Sandra

    Q: Please be honest... the heaven above Ibiza currently is...
    A: ...deep blue and without any clouds. 25 degrees Celsius, a soft breeze blows.

    Q: Please stop at once!
    A: I live here near Santa Ines together with Michael on this island for 19 years now, and i must confess that i wake up different, if the sun is shining. That is a feeling of floating, you begin your day totally relaxed. But there are also days here where the weather is extremely hot and sweating. In winter times temperatures can fall down to 10 or even 8 degrees Celsius.

    Q: I get excited - so please let us change the topic. What about your family?
    A: Our twins, Nikita and Sebastian are 11 years old soon. They visit an international school. Michael is currently in the studio to produce "Enigma 6". That is the reason why my new album is produced by Jens Gad this time. His name wont be in the CD booklet for the first time, except for the thanksgivings. I am pretty exhausted. After 8 months in the studio, usually at night time when the kids were asleep, i feel some kind of jet lag.

    Q: Tell about your new album.
    Errrm! How much time do you have? Where shall i begin?

    Q: Right from the start.
    A: I have to call myself down, because i am totally euphoric. This album is more than i ever made before! MY BABY! I co-wrote all the songs myself for the first time. The lyrics are extremely personal. I am getting over with my childhood,my parents, God and the "doctors in white" who are in part responsible for the much too early death of my brother.

    Q: Slow down a bit. This sounds a bit scary. What was so wrong with your childhood?
    A: It simply was bad. I was locked in very often. My brother was paraplegic, but that was some kind of a taboo topic in our family. Three weeks before our twins were born, he died. At the age of 35. On my album i get over with all this. The songs are all authentic and very straight forward. Work was hard sometimes, but it also was some kind of therapy for me. I believe that when this album will be released i finally can close this chapter of my life.

    Q: This all sums up totally vice versa to the image you had since the 80ties: the pop princess in a modern fairytale.
    A: The fairytale is over now!

    Q: What do your parents think about all this?
    A: They do not know the songs yet. I do not have very close contact to them anymore either.

    Q: When the new album will be released and how will it be called?
    A: Because we plan to release another remix album first the release is planned for autumn 2006. The title of the album - i believe i am not allowed to tell by now.

    Q: Come on?!
    A: Okay, the album will be called "The Art Of Love", and it will also sound totally different from the records i have released until now. I recorded it together with Jens Gad. He works together with Michael since many years, his studio is only 10 minutes away from our house. But other than Michael he also plays guitar and drums.

    Q: The change from pop-lady to rock-lady?
    A: Well, at least the songs have much less keyboards, but lots more guitars. I got my inspirations from the early works of Genesis and Pink Floyd, with which i grew up. 80 percent of the music we recorded with live instruments. There are lots of choirs. Sinead O´Connor wrote a song for me, another one comes from Maxi Priest. I have changed musically. I still stand for what i have sung my whole live but i cannot return to stage like the 18 year old Sandra and perform "Hi! Hi! Hi!". Thats not me anymore.

    Q: Well, Michael and you seem to be made for the yellow press: two successful artists, two sweet children, living on Ibiza. But you both preferred your privacy ever since...
    A: ...and we lived very good with that. Michael and me we are together for 24 years now, being married since 18 years. At least - we didnt make everything wrong.
