"We have been making great progress on the Nürburgring. This process started last year when a crew of four of us made the trip to Nürburg, Adenau, and the surrounding towns to capture photo and video reference. We collected a massive amount of photo and video data with over 25,000 files to sort through and categorize. Starting with production, things kicked into high gear in January and art has begun to support the project now as well.
Right now we're about a third complete with the Nordschleife track spline/surface, having started at Fuchsröhre and just today reaching Karussell exit. Because of the unique challenge of this project and the sheer amount of area we need to model, this is the first project we've actually split between two production staff. While I've been chipping away at the Nordschleife, Kevin has been modeling the GP course. At some point we'll merge these two geometries together to support the combined version.
It's fun loading the track up after a few days of development and driving until the end of the model -- at which time the car resets back at the start and it can be done all over again. There's a good 3 minutes of driving so far.
