Future of two triallists to be decided in midweek
Arsène Wenger will finally decide on the futures of Alexander Song and Philippe Christanval on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old midfielder and the ex-Barcelona centre back have been on trial with Arsenal throughout pre-season. Each played in three of the four friendlies before the Amsterdam Tournament and Wenger did say he’d sort out the issue before his side left for the Netherlands.
However, speaking at the end of the event last night, the manager still wanted a little more time.
“I will make a decision on Song and Christanval on Wednesday,” he said.
However it seems Wenger will resist the temptation to have one last look when he takes an Arsenal XI to Beveren in Belgium on Tuesday night in the Club’s final pre-season warm-up before the Community Shield.
“No [I won’t use them],” he said. “In Beveren we’ll have six players from Sunday night. Also it will be the first game for Van Persie, Fabregas and Quincy but it will still be a little early for Gilberto.”
