SHEVA: ‘A special feeling’
2/8/2006
MILAN - Andriy Shevchenko on the Milan Channel: ‘It is great to be able to pass a great player like Rivera who is part of Milan’s history, it is a special feeling. However, the most important thing about today was the confirmation that the team are improving. We played well and we all scored. We entered with the conviction to win, to improve our play and to have a good time. In the second half we created a lot of opportunities. Another positive fact is that we didn’t concede a goal. We worked together and we didn’t give away anything.’ Regarding the climb towards Nordhal’s record, Sheva added: ‘It is difficult to think about passing it. The most important thing for me is to be consistent, do well every season and give victories to this great club that is like my family. If it happens one day, then I will be very happy.’
KAKA': ‘Milan are back’
2/8/2006
MILAN – A joyous Ricky Kakà after the 5-0 victory over Treviso: ‘I am going home happy tonight because Milan are back. Now we must stay united and continue to grow so that we can do well in the Champions League as well. This victory is a morale booster and it helped the team in this moment. I am happy for Sheva because first and foremost he is my friend before my team-mate. I hope that Andriy continues to write himself into the history of Milan. Congratulations!’
ANCELOTTI: ‘Many goals and a good show for the fans’
2/8/2006
MILAN - Carlo Ancelotti's post-game analysis: ‘It was a beautiful evening and a beautiful game. We played at an optimal level and there were a lot of signs of improvement. We are confident about the future. We took control right away thanks to Kakà’s goal and we saw an all around great Milan down until the end. We played well in terms of speed upfront, bringing the midfielders into the game and getting the full-backs forward. Each one of the goals was beautiful and it was a good show for the fans. The spirit that I saw on the field was the same as was Sunday’s against Lazio, but there was less apprehension and the result arrived.’ Regarding individual players, he added: ‘Vogel helped to balance things out, he gave substance to the midfield. Costacurta was no surprise, he lives for this work and his performance this evening was the result of training. Sheva has reached a wonderful target, no he has another objective ahead, Nordahl's record. He's young and can do it. He's emerging as a goalscorer but also as a leader, which is an important jump in quality.’ Finally he touched briefly on the league table and the results of the other teams: ‘We must focus on ourselves and try to find the Milan that we saw this evening, a team that is focused and able to score many goals. Our objective is to win and rack up some good results for continuity. This is the only way that we will be able to recover points on Inter and get back into second place.’
GALLIANI: ‘Will fight until the end’
2/8/2006
MILAN – The comments of chief executive Adriano Galliani: ‘It was a really great game, just as the one against Lazio was. A lot of goals change people’s attitudes about the team, but I want to repeat what I already said on Sunday which is that our team is competitive at the top level. We are in third place, but I hope that we will climb up the table. The other sides can also draw two games, this Milan will fight ahead in both the league and the Champions League. This team isn’t inferior to Inter or Juve. We have a few less points, but we will fight until the end.’ Then a thought on Shevchenko: ‘We wanted him because we always knew he would be a top player and now he has demonstrated this on the field. After Van Basten, we have found another great striker. Gila will become one as well, just as will other young players like Kakà, Gattuso, Pirlo.’
