Chelsea offer to double £55M Shevchenko's AC Milan wages
tribalfootball.com - August 10, 2005
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is offering Andrei Shevchenko to double his current AC Milan wages to move to Stamford Bridge before the summer transfer window shuts.
Corriere dello Sport says Abramovich is making a final bid for Ukraine international Shevchenko with a contract offer worth £7 million-a-year - double what he is earning with Milan.
Chelsea's original £55 million bid remains on the table and now Abramovich is banking on Shevchenko asking away to speed up negotiations.
Milan's capture of Christian Vieri and Alberto Gilardino, plus their renewed interest for AS Roma striker Antonio Cassano, has fueled speculation this week that they're preparing to sell Shevchenko before the market closes at the end of the month.
