IFFHS: Adriano Is 2005 Top Scorer
The IFFHS (International Federation of Football History and Statistics) has released yet another ranking to baffle and enrage – or even delight – football fans. The list of ‘goalgetters’ released by the German statistical organisation is topped by Adriano and followed by... Wilmer Velásquez of Olimpia Tegucigalpa (Honduras).

The Emperor scored 10 for the seleção and eight more for club Inter Milan, giving a podium-topping 18 goals netted in 2005. His immediate pursuer was the rather lesser-known Wilmer Velásquez, with15. The ‘bronze’ was shared between Ronaldinho Gaúcho of FC Barcelona and Emad Mohamed of National SC Cairo (Egypt); both with 14 goals.

The list (http://www.iffhs.de) includes those players who made it into double figures last year – 16 in total, but has already stirred controversy with many fans claiming that the German accounting isn’t up to traditional accuracy. Can any readers name players who should have made it onto the list? Does this sort of statistical report need 'weighting' to give a bigger emphasis on the more competitive leagues? Let us know...
