NEWS: MATRIX sequel to screen in IMAX format
Toronto’s IMAX corporation has announced that it has closed a deal with Warner Bros. to screen the upcoming MATRIX sequels THE MATRIX RELOADED and this fall’s THE MATRIX REVOLUTION on giant IMAX screens across the USA, at the same time that the film is running in conventional movie houses. The film will be remastered digitally using IMAX’s DMR technology, the same technique that was employed to bring Ron Howard’s APOLLO 13 and George Lucas’ STAR WARS: EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES to IMAX screens.
THE MATRIX RELOADED is planned to appear in IMAX theaters two or three weeks after the film hits conventional theaters on May 15, while THE MATRIX REVOLUTION will debut Nov. 5 on IMAX screens and in conventional theaters simultaneously, the first time a feature has debuted in both formats simulatenously.
In a press release, Imax said that "the simultaneous release of first-run Hollywood event films in its theaters is the holy grail for the company, and it's something investors have been anxiously anticipating for some time."
