Hehe talatam egy jo kis vita topikot arrol, hogy egyesek vissza akarjak hozni OF-t... meg egy pro hozzaszolast...kar hogy mire kitoltam az elso 50esem toa megjelenese utan mar nem volt OF
nesztek emlekek:
Yeah... let's bring back classic RvR...
Ah yes... the old mid savage/zerk trains o' doom. Hmmmm what flavor shall we pick...
Will it be the 900 Crit 755 flavor zerker steroidite LA Doublefrost mashers?
Or perhaps the 222 crit 108 223 crit 99 381 302 crit 102 turbo quadding savages with dualists reflexes still ramping their quad %?
Don't forget the half price purge/ignorepain and pre-nerf determination where a 1:21 root would not even stop them. (They at least slow down for 12 seconds nowdays).
Oh yes the joys the joys... hmm oh yeah... pre-nerf speed of sound - that was a joy! Unbrekable speed 5! Old school bof too! Only in alb that was a blast!
Oh yeah... Cc without CB, GOLM, mezz cures, and 30:00 timers on purge! Great fun! Ahhh yes... how I loves the ol days of sitting there mezzed while the group was killed 1 at a time, with no purge 3, no mezz cures, no cerimonial bracers, no ml 10 cloaks, and no golm. Oh yay! Instamezzed again... hit the /release macro now!
Or how about the inverse... where hibs with their 2x group purges were neigh invulnerable to cc? That was fun to fight!
Oh yes... the joys of milegate camping animists and hib pbaoe death setting up shop and blockaiding us behind the AMG in emain for HOURS. Unlimited mushrooms, pbaoe goign thru walls, the mg doors targetale with aoes... even old unnerfed SoS would not get you through alive.
Oh what other fun... oh yes... the alb frontier... that enver saw action... ever. Completely abandoned. The mid frontier was almost as barren. The only place even the albs knew how to get to was castle excal, and on that subject... freaking undefendable castle myridin made it a virtual guarentee that the albs never kept their power relic for long.
But their is more oh yes... how about those old keeps... that was fun charging face first into pbaoe death right through the walls... great fun. It was like the labby but for less rp's! Oh geat... those were good times...
And how about those rp's... ah yes... 54 rp's a kill for a full group on average. For most of new frontiers support classes didn't get rp's for doing jack. No rezz rp's, no healing rp's, no cc rps - it was a thankless job that you were not rewarded for unless you were wacking sombody with your hammer or smite/ddruod dottong them. It was relatively late into things when they even split rp's amongst the group - an it was crappy rp's compared to the 400-500 you get these days for killing somebody in a fg.
Soooooooooooooooo many balance issues... so many classes were garbage... thanes, reavers, valewalkers... those classes were in awful shape.
Ahhh yes... ignore pain + first aid useable in combat.... on assassins even. That was fair.
Casters were beyond gimpy unless they were pbaoe bombers. What's a runie? Mentalist what? (OK some things don't change), Theurgist? Cabalist? Huh?
Oh yes... the fun that was bonedancers before the first pet level nerf - fast recast lifetap, 4 blue con pets, debuff itnerrupt... hello I'll just kill all the assasisns camping the amg now thx haha. At once. Whooo hahaha this is fun.
Oh yes on to assassins... how about that old viper on nightshades... i.e. instant death... not to mention old school avoid pain on them... plus the aformentioned ignore pain... they were out tanking heroes... can't forget dragonfang ftw on infs... with dodger 3 and no evade cap. And naturally we can't gloss over the walking turbo ginsues that were shadowzerkers.
Archers were nerfed into oblivion. Almost none of them played anymore. They were sickbefore but swatted off the map with broad strokes of the nerf bat - all the hunters were running aroudn with high spear and megafelid pets, most of the rangers were super blades, and the few scouts left were perched above the MPK in emain using the elevation to shoot arrows at the buff bots - oh yes there were already lots and lots of buff bots by SI - standing by the portal pad.
And how about porting... oh that was a friggin joy... AFK 10:00... crap forgeto my necklace... see you all in 10:00. Or those /releases just in time to mis the port.
Or the old emain chat-groups that you had to invite people back to one at a time.
Hgnarlgnafeffegash sends: "CG invite plz."
Yeah... that was awsome fun.
The truth is, old frontiers was an absolute mess - both in terms of execution, and game balance. It was not evne remotely balanced. Right now, DAoC is more balanced, and polished, and well thought out than it was at any point in it's life.
What you remember fondly is not the absolute mess that the game was, but all the people that there used to be. You won't get those back.
Why?
This is a six year old game. You won't see the populations the game had back when it was the "new flashy toy" on the block.
All this misty eyed waxing poetic about the mess that was old frontiers makes me chuckle. People get so wrapped up in nostalgia, that they forget all of the HUGE problems that have since been fixed.
You don't want old frontiers. You want the memories, the people, an unattainable ideal that exists only as a costrruct in your mind. The old frontiers you want never ever existed. And it never will.
