"Edge of Tomorrow 2 Gets A New Title
Edge of Tomorrow 2 has a title and a returning original cast member. Doug Liman’s action-sci-fi was a critical hit back in 2014, with its delectable concept of Tom Cruise having to re-live the same day of combat over and over explored to its full potential. It was a more moderate box office success , although did still manage to double its budget (the universally accepted mark for breaking even).
A sequel has thus been on the cards since the first film hit, and although development has been slow Liman has been confirmed to return as director and Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, best known for Jesse Owens biopic Race, are writing the screenplay based on an original story idea Tom Cruise pitched to original screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (who’s worked with the actor on Jack Reacher and Mission: Impossible). Liman’s currently working on psychological thriller The Wall , but is still planning to return to the world of Edge.
While promoting his latest, Liman revealed to Collider that while no firm plans are set, the film has a new title – Live Die Repeat and Repeat – and that Emily Blunt is on board:
“We have an amazing story! It’s incredible! Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film. It will be called Live Die Repeat and Repeat. Tom [Cruise] is excited about it, and Emily Blunt is excited about it. The big question is just when we’ll do it. But it’s not an if, it’s a when.”"
