Serie A Preview: Udinese-Palermo

In what promises to be a closely fought encounter, Udinese host 6th placed Palermo on Sunday. Both sides fancy their chances of qualifying for Europe again this season and will be going all out for the 3 points.
BACKGROUND
Although Udinese have not had the best of starts to their Serie A campaign, they lie just 5 points from fourth placed Inter. After their much publicized incident with striker Iaquinta the looks to have put their patchy form behind them. Udinese have some of the best attacking options n the league, but their defense lets them down sometimes. They face a Palermo side that is more than capable of scoring away from home and will need to be at their best if they are to achieve a good result. Simply put, Udinese cannot afford another loss if they are to climb back up the table.
Whilst still on track in Europe, Palermo’s domestic form has begun to slip, with the last three matches ending in a loss and two draws. The Rosanero are in still in good standing, however, as they won three of their first four matches. This side is full of talented, young players, and they could well challenge for honors in the future.
TEAM NEWS
Udinese
Di Natale starts in place of Di Michele who is on the bench for this game. Cosmi has a full squad to choose from and names an otherwise unchanged side.
Palermo
Del Neri can pick from almost a complete squad to face Udinese. The former Chievo and Roma tactician has no major injury worries and will name his strongest 11.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Udinese
Iaquinta is a player for the big games, and this should be a great game to watch. Facing an attacking side like Palermo, Iaquinta should find plenty of space to exploit. The striker is one of the most hotly pursued frontmen in European football at the moment and will cause Palermo plenty of problems.
Palermo
Caracciolo’s progress seemed to stutter last season as he more than any other player felt the loss of Brescia teammate Baggio. The powerful striker seems to have started the season brightly and it is time that Caracciolo finds the net after some imposing performances. The striker may not yet score enough goals but he has time on his side and his powerful play will cause any defense problems.
