At least six of the Chevrolet teams in the field this week at Texas are expected to debut the new R07 engine, a clean-sheet design that’s the first for the automaker since the introduction of the SB2 in 1998. Joe Gibbs Racing will use it for all three of its drivers — Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin and J.J. Yeley — while Hall of Fame Racing, which gets its motors from Gibbs will also run the motor in Tony Raines’s car.
Hendrick will have the new motor for Kyle Busch and Casey Mears, but not for Nextel Cup points leader Jeff Gordon or Jimmie Johnson, winner of three of the prior four Cup races. No date has been set for when Gordon and Johnson will begin using the new engines, team officials said.
vagy lemaradtam valamirõl?
1. Jimmie Johnson, #48 Lowe's Chevrolet, Hendrick Motor Sports
I don't feel the need to justify this, but since I know you all enjoy my witty banter so much, I'll continue: He has won 3 of the last 4 races this year, including a win at Atlanta (a track very similar to TMS). He also had a 2nd place run here last season.
2. Tony Stewart, #20 Home Depot Chevrolet, Gibbs Racing
Stewart utterly decimated the field in the fall race at Texas, leading 278 out of 339 laps and notching the win. He also led the most laps in the spring race (with 99) and led 121 laps at Atlanta a couple weeks ago en route to finishing 2nd. You can't go wrong in choosing the 20 or the 48 this week. Personally, I'm going to flip a coin. My fantasy NASCAR roster is the epitome of science.
3. Matt Kenseth, #17 DeWalt Tools Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing
Kenseth is showing some of the form that helped him win the Cup championship in 2003 (and become a format wrecker for the ages). He wasn't even mentioned on last week's telecast and still finished 10th. This is after the 17 team decided their car was so bad early on they should stay out and lead a lap on a short track, where track position is more important than being down a cylinder. He was 3rd in Atlanta, 4th at Las Vegas, and had a 2nd place finish in the spring race at Texas last season.
4. Jeff Burton, #31 Cingular Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing
Burton will get a win sooner rather than later. He was 4th at Atlanta and has been strong all season. He has won at Texas before and had a solid 6th place run last spring.
5. Mark Martin, #01 US Army Chevrolet, Ginn Racing
Don't forget about Martin this week. The cup points leader through week 4, Martin sat out the last two races. He is a top class B option this week, with a win and 4 top 5's in 12 career starts.
6. Clint Bowyer, #07 Jack Daniel's Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing
Bowyer was 6th at Atlanta this year, and had a 5th in the last race at Texas. He has improved at almost every track and( like Burton) is primed for a win.
7. Kevin Harvick, #29 Shell/Reeses/GM Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing
I can't really believe that I'm ranking Harvick last among his teammates, especially since he had finishes of 5th and 3rd last season at Texas. But, he was 25th at Atlanta and has not been as consistent as the 31 and 07.
8. Kyle Busch, #5 Kellogg's Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports
The younger Busch (I have to refrain from calling him Shrub, and believe me, it's a huge effort on my part) and the 5 team have been one of the strongest in the garage this season. He had problems at Atlanta earlier in the season and finished 32nd, but had finishes of 4th and 15th last season at Texas. Look for a solid run Sunday.
9. Jeff Gordon, #24 DuPont Chevrolet, Hendrick Motor Sports
Gordon has never won at TMS, which seems kind of strange. Regardless, he was 2nd at Las Vegas and 12th at Atlanta, where he also led 30 laps. There are better class A selections, but he should run well.
10. Dale Earnhardt Jr, #8 Budweiser Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt Inc.
Jr. loves racing at Texas and has a win there to go with 3 top 5's in 9 starts. Last season, he had finishes of 12th and 6th and should be in the running for a top 5 (if he can avoid some of the dumb mistakes that have plagued him this season).
11. Kasey Kahne, #9 Dodge Dealers Dodge, Evernham Motorsports
Kahne needs a strong run to stay in the top 35 in owner points. He is a pathetic 34th thus far, and has only been able to finish on the same lap as the leaders one time (at Daytona). Kahne was unbelievably strong on these types of racetracks in 2006 and had a win at Texas in the spring. An engine failure knocked him out of the fall race. Kahne could easily win Sunday if things go his way, but there is no way he makes my roster with the luck he has encountered in 2007.
12. Denny Hamlin, #11 FedEx Chevrolet, Gibbs Racing
Hamlin had finishes of 4th and 10th at Texas in 2006, and should again be a contender for a top 10 finish. He was also 3rd at Las Vegas, although he finished a lap down at Atlanta in 19th.
13. Martin Truex, Jr., #1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt Inc Truex was 8th at Atlanta and 12th at Vegas, to go with finishes of 8th and 14th last season at TMS. He is a solid class B selection for Sunday.
14. Carl Edwards, #99 Office Depot Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing
Edwards had a 6th place run at Vegas, a 7th place run at Atlanta, and has a win at Texas in 4 starts at the track. He is a solid class B pick for this week.
15. Bobby Labonte, #43 Cheerios Dodge, Petty Enterprises
Labonte was 16th at Atlanta and even led a lap. He also had finishes of 10th and 16th last season at TMS, and was 13th at Las Vegas earlier this year. A top 10 is very possible for the 43 team this week as they look to rebound from their disappointment at Martinsville, where Labonte was expected to contend for a top 5 before being involved in an early crash.
16. Jamie McMurray, #26 Crown Royal Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing
I think McMurray could have a solid run at Texas, but not because he sees a sports psychologist, does Yoga, and eats organic foods (did anyone else see that article?). Seriously, could anyone picture Cale Yarborough, Junior Johnson, or David Pearson doing Yoga? McMurray has 1 top 5 in 6 career starts at Texas, and was 15th at Atlanta earlier this season. He also had a top 10 at Vegas. It must be the organic foods, because this team really struggled in 2006. What's next, a pink fire suit?
17. Kurt Busch, #2 Miller Lite Dodge, Penske Racing South
The blue deuce was 11th at Atlanta and he had an 8th place run at Texas last fall. The Penske teams seem to be gaining some momentum; and Busch has an average finish of 12.6 at Texas for his career.
18. Juan Pablo Montoya, #42 Havoline Dodge, Chip Ganassi Racing
Montoya looked great at Atlanta, scoring a 5th place finish. TMS is very similar, so even though he is a rookie, he has a shot at another top 5 and should definitely score a top 15 (if he doesn't have a rookie moment).
19. Reed Sorenson, #41 Target Dodge, Chip Ganassi Racing
Sorenson was 9th at Atlanta and last season at Texas, the 41 scored finishes of 13th and 17th. He is often overlooked in fantasy circles, but Sorenson is a solid pick again this week, especially since he is a class C driver in Yahoo leagues.
20. Casey Mears, #25 GMAC Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports
Mears has an average finish of 10th for his career at TMS; and he had finishes of 14th and 7th there last season. He has struggled this season and finds himself 33rd in the points, but he will have a strong car and I'm betting on a possible top 10 for the 25 team.
21. Greg Biffle, #16 Ameriquest Ford, Roush-Fenway Racing
Biffle has had horrible luck at TMS recently, with finishes of 35th and 42nd last season. He was also 41st at Atlanta, but did have a 16th place run at Vegas. Those finishes don't tell it all, as Biffle did lead 49 laps in one of the events at Texas, and he also has a win at TMS in 6 career starts. If he keeps the fenders on the car and doesn't have engine trouble, he should be a solid bet for a top 15.
22. David Stremme, #40 Coors Light Dodge, Chip Ganassi Racing
The 40 team continues to impress, coming into the event 13th in points. Stremme finished 13th at Atlanta and 20th at Las Vegas. He should improve on his finishes last season at TMS, where he was 24th and 21st. He is a good class C pick for this week.
23. Elliott Sadler, #19 Dodge Dealers Dodge, Evernham Motorsports
Sadler has a win at Texas in 10 career starts; and while he encountered some trouble there last season( and had two bad finishes), he is a strong candidate for Sunday in his Evernham ride. He was 14th at Las Vegas and 18th at Atlanta.
24. Ryan Newman, #12 ALLTEL Dodge, Penske Racing South
Newman was 8th at Las Vegas, but 23rd at Atlanta. He had two awful runs last season at TMS and is probably not the best class B pick for this week.
25. Joe Nemechek, #13 Ginn Resorts Chevrolet, Ginn Racing
Nemechek was involved in a crash at Las Vegas, but did have a solid 17th place run at Atlanta. Last season, he had finishes of 23rd and 18th at TMS and might contend for a top 20 this Sunday.
26. JJ Yeley, #18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet, Joe Gibbs Racing
Yeley drove smart races at both Atlanta (finishing 22nd) and Las Vegas (18th). He was also 20th in the fall race at TMS, and is another decent class C option for this week.
27. Jeff Green, #66 Best Buy Chevrolet, Haas Racing
Green had solid finishes of 18th and 13th last season at Texas. He managed a 25th at Vegas, but was 35th at Atlanta. A top 20 is possible, but not probable.
28. Tony Raines, #96 DLP HDTVChevrolet, Hall of Fame Racing
Raines had handling issues at Atlanta that led to a 38th place finish. He did manage runs of 24th and 19th at Texas last season, and was also 19th at Vegas.
29. David Gilliland, #38 M & M's Ford, Robert Yates Racing
Gilliland was 21st in his only career start at TMS, and was also 21st earlier this year at Vegas. Yates has a win at Texas with Elliott Sadler, and a top 20 isn't out of the question for Sunday. However, there are much better class B options.
30. Kyle Petty, #45 Wells Fargo Dodge, Petty Enterprises
The 45 had an 11th place run at TMS last season, although an engine failure in the spring race left Petty 39th. He was 34th at Atlanta earlier this year, and may not be the best class C pick for this week, as he did not look very competitive.

Unalmas lenne Jeff Gordonért állandóan 1 pontot kapni! (Na jó, azért ennek is örülnénk páran! <#vigyor3>#vigyor3>)
