Logic's Obsessive imprint more than proved itself through 2000, with a series of albums securing its reputation as a purveyor of the finest quality compilations. Studio 54 employs the talent of Kenny Carpenter, the respected club DJ and one time resident of the Studio 54, who puts together a lovingly authentic take on the music which dominated one of worlds' more infamous venues during the 80s. Those in search of Chic and Gloria Gaynor should turn their gaze elsewhere--this mix chops out the crowd pleasers with a series of tracks that reflect the musical eclecticism which reigned though New York at the time. As such the progressive synth-science of the opening Chas Jankel finds itself chased down by the ahead-of-its-time fusion of The Clash, before we see some no frills disco mayhem with Sparque's "Lets Go Dancing" and the sweaty jazz funk of "Take a Chance" courtesy of Pleasure.
