    Mely magyarul: a fotonokat rendszerint hv-vel, a foton energiájával szimbolizáljuk, ahol h a Planck-állandó, és a görög ν (nü) betű a foton frekvenciája. Kevésbé elterjedten hf-fel is jelölhetjük a fotont, melyben f jelenti a frekvenciát.
